Aladdin Auditions

21st September 7:30pm

23rd September 7:30pm

We can’t wait to get back, but first we need a cast! Come along and have a sing song and a read of the script on one of our audition dates!

That’s right, you only need to come to one date, and you don’t need to prepare or learn anything beforehand! Some audition pieces will be released nearer the time for you to read if you wish. Just have a think about the characters you might want to audition for. Easy, right?

Scripts are available by emailing either director Mandy (acdelah@btinternet.com) or PA Amanda (publicity.playhouse@gmail.com).

Panto auditions are the perfect place to start if you want to try out performing for the first time – just send us a message if you want any more information about what it involves.

Aladdin will be performed at our lovely theatre right on Whitstable High Street in the last two weeks of January 2022.

Sorry, due to a large cast and trying to allow for a lot of dressing room space, we cannot cast any under 16s in this production.

As the auditions for our annual pantomime Aladdin are looming, here is a little more information for you all!

—-CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS—-
Male:
Abanazar (the baddie)
Widow Twankey (the dame)
Wishee Washee (her son)
Emperor of Peking

Female:
Princess Jasmine, a feisty young lady

Male or Female:
Aladdin
Nobby the Panda(non-speaking)
Sergeant P and PC P (comedy duo)
Genie of the Lamp
Genie of the Ring

Chorus members – ideally a mixture of Male and Female. Chorus are a very important element to any pantomime, bringing life, energy and joy to the show. If going for a named part please also consider putting yourself forward to be a chorus member as well.

A little note on Nobby the Panda. He/She may not have any lines to learn but Nobby, as Wishee Washee’s sidekick, is on a lot and has a definite character. No standing about in a fluffy costume looking cute. I’m looking for a lot of physicality, big gestures and lots of body language. The actor needs to be reasonably fit and agile.

—-THE AUDITION—-
At the audition Lucie will teach you all a song so there is no need to prepare anything. Abanazar, Aladdin, Princess Jasmine, Widow Twankey, and the Genie of the Lamp have solo singing parts, and should expect to sing solo at the audition, but there is again no need to prepare anything!
All chorus members should expect to sing and dance a little in the show, but there is no dance audition. Most principals will be required to ‘move’ at least once or twice, though usually in character! Please bear in mind Sergeant P & PC P, the Emperor, Twankey and Wishee Washee have a comedy ‘sand dance’ routine.
If going for character parts you will be required to read from bits of the script with other people. There is no need to learn the lines but you may look over them if you wish!

—-AUDITION PIECES—-
