Acting Royalty Comes to Whitstable
Sir Ian McKellen was in the audience on Tuesday 25 September to watch the Lindley Players’ Production of Closer at the Playhouse Theatre.
He came in his capacity as Patron of The Little Theatre Guild of which the Lindley Players are members. Sir Ian says he was a graduate of the Little Theatre Guild and it was at the Wigan Theatre that he saw Macbeth for the first time and at Bolton Little Theatre where, as a youth, he relished acting alongside veteran amateurs.
After the show Sir Ian spoke with members of the audience, the cast, director Larry Dobin and chair and vice chair of the Lindley Players Howard Lee and Peter Hunt. He was very complimentary about the Theatre, the organisation, and particularly the acting and technical quality of Closer. Although the presence of Gandalph in the audience on the first night of Closer put added pressure on cast and crew they were delighted with Sir Ian`s very positive feedback and friendly attitude.
