Open Auditions - Snake in the Grass

Announcing auditions for The Lindley Players’ production of Snake in the Grass – Alan Ayckbourn’s black comedy/thriller.

A LINDLEY PLAYERS PRODUCTION

“Snake in the Grass” by Alan Ayckbourn – 19th-22nd September

Read-through – Tuesday 5th June @ 7:30pm in the Playhouse bar

Auditions – Tuesday 12th June @ 7:30pm in the Playhouse bar

“Annabel Chester, a stressed businesswoman, enters the garden of her family home for the first time after running away aged twelve. She is met by Alice Moody, the nurse to Annabel’s late father. After some short-lived pleasantries and some curt references to Annabel’s ex-marriage, Alice states she was dismissed by her sister, Miriam, not for inefficiency as Annabel believes, but because she was trying to stop Miriam finishing her father off.”

“Snake in the Grass” is an excellent exploration of childhood trauma, strained sibling relationships, blackmail and the supernatural. It’s considered as Part 2 in Ayckbourn’s “Things that Go Bump” trilogy, (the previous being “Haunting Julia” and the following “Life and Beth”) but holds it’s own perfectly as a stand alone play.

There are three female characters in the play, and the only reliance on age is that the sisters are of similar age (playing a six year age gap); the sisters will playing age between 40-60, with Alice being slightly younger (i.e 35-55). They are:

Annabel Chester – was a successful married business woman, now divorced and her business collapsed;

Miriam Chester – Annabel’s younger sister, eternally house-bound to her late father’s house

Alice Moody – nurse for Annabel and Miriam’s father shortly before his death

The read through will take place in the bar on Tuesday 5th June, with the auditions the following week on Tuesday 12th June.
